BookAI ("we", "our", "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Data we collect

• Apple ID information: When you sign in with Apple, we receive a unique identifier and, optionally, your email address if you choose to share it. We use this solely for account authentication.
• Reading activity: Your reading position and chapter progress are stored on your device to restore your place in a book. This data is not sent to our servers.
• Questions you ask: When you use the AI assistant, the selected text and your question are sent to our server and forwarded to the AI service (Anthropic Claude) to generate an answer. We do not store your questions or the AI responses after they are delivered to you.
• Subscription information: If you subscribe to BookAI Pro, Apple handles all payment processing. We receive a transaction identifier to manage your subscription status. We do not have access to your payment details.
• Feedback: If you submit feedback through the app, the message is stored on our servers. Feedback is not publicly linked to your identity — other users see only a pseudonym (e.g. "Helpful user #1").
• Usage quotas: We track the number of AI questions you have asked in each category to enforce usage limits. This is stored as a counter associated with your account.

2. How we use your data

• To authenticate you and manage your account
• To provide AI-powered reading assistance
• To manage your subscription and usage quotas
• To improve the app based on feedback

3. Third-party services

• Apple: Sign in with Apple for authentication, App Store for payments
• Anthropic (Claude): AI service that processes your questions. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to data they process.
• Amazon Web Services: Our backend infrastructure is hosted on AWS in the EU (Ireland) region.

4. Data storage and security

Your account data is stored securely on Amazon Web Services in the EU. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. Your reading progress is stored only on your device.

5. Data retention

Your account data is retained as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data will be removed from our servers. AI questions and responses are not stored after delivery.

6. Your rights

You can:

• Sign out at any time from the app's profile page
• Choose not to share your email when signing in with Apple
• Request deletion of your account data by contacting us

7. Children's privacy

BookAI is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available at this URL.
